I love to makeover furniture. The problem with furniture is that it takes up a lot of room. And working on it makes your arms very, very tired. I thought maybe I could start working on something smaller for the shop. I figured TB would really appreciate a break from the usual “Honey, you have to make dinner again. I can’t even lift my arms right now.”
(By the way I have decided to keep TB. As a friend suggested, it will know be short for The Brian. I tried out the TH for The Husband but it just doesn’t roll off the tongue.)
So I like to use up things that are going to be thrown out, especially when someone tells you they have no use. (I will have to do a post on my wedding table numbers.) So if I have a lot of small pieces of wood with no use, I should find a use. I thought about maybe those little painted inspirational signs that are everywhere. I found two problems with making those signs. One, I suck at painting letters on things and stenciling takes forever. Two, I hate sappy inspirational signs.
So instead the letters are burnt into the wood and the saying are kind of, well, snotty. To age the wood I used a new stain idea I found online tha’ts actually an old technique made from soaking metal objects (steel wool, rusty drill bits) in vinegar for awhile. It gives a pretty cool effect and really brings out the characteristics of the wood.
So here are the first four I have finished. They are available in the shop at the links below.
For all those long days in life – Screw It. Let’s Drink.
Of course I love you. Now get me a beer.
I’m not arguing. I’m explaining why I’m right.
Never underestimate the seductive power of a decent vocabulary.
I have been working on other sayings so let me know if you have any suggestions. I look forward to bringing attitude laden reclaimed wood to the masses!
LOL, love ’em!!!
Reading those sayings made feel like you bugged my house for inspiration…
