This past Tuesday I got my official invitation to be a featured designer at the Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Luncheon<\/a>!!!<\/p>\n

\"HH<\/a><\/p>\n

First, lets back up a bit so I can explain how this came about. \u00a0As we talked about late last summer<\/a>, I wanted to start getting out and talking to people that were not my child or my dog and preferably talk about business. \u00a0I joined the Navesink Business Group<\/a>\u00a0in October and I’m so glad I did. \u00a0 They are great about referrals and supporting each other plus\u00a0it’s a pleasure to talk with other local business owners. \u00a0There I met Donna Beriont of DNB Events<\/a>. \u00a0 We had chatted at earlier meetings but it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that a business collaboration came up.<\/p>\n

DNB Events is handling all of the press and social media for a luncheon fundraiser Habitat for Humanity is holding for their Women Build program. \u00a0This year they are having a Designer Showcase with makeovers of furniture from the ReStore<\/a>, another one of their programs. \u00a0The Restore has tons of furniture and housewares at crazy prices. \u00a0Some of the Restores even sell building materials. \u00a0(Click here to find one near you.<\/a>) The finished pieces will be auctioned off at the luncheon as a fundraiser. \u00a0Its a big deal with about 300 people expected.<\/p>\n

Donna approached me to ask if I might be interested in being a designer. \u00a0I don’t think I could have said yes any faster. \u00a0This whole project is good for a ton of reasons:<\/p>\n

1. I get to work on some furniture with a deadline. \u00a0I can’t push it off for “later” when I have “more time”. \u00a0Like that happens with your own business and a toddler.<\/p>\n

2. My business will get tons of press. \u00a0My fancy logo will be featured on the luncheon invite and the marketing materials. \u00a0The finished pieces will be displayed in the ReStore in Freehold, NJ from April 15th to May 1st so lots of people will get to not only see my logo but my actual work.<\/p>\n

3. I get named as one of four featured designers next to the words “Habitat for Humanity”. \u00a0That is great for my own morale.<\/p>\n

4. I have found out about Women Build. (Click here to find events near you.<\/a>) It’s this great program to teach woman how to use tools and build houses to get a family out of poverty. \u00a0I am all for telling woman they can do more than think and to dream big. \u00a0And there is very little that empowers you in the way a power tool does. \u00a0The first time I used a pneumatic nail gun I think I was giggling I loved it so much.<\/p>\n

5. I get a challenge. \u00a0Which I love.<\/p>\n

One of the rules of the challenge is all the furniture will be from the ReStore in Freehold. \u00a0I was so excited to go yesterday and start picking things out until another snow storm changed that. I am heading there tomorrow and can’t wait to see what they have. \u00a0I want these pieces to show my style and I have to say I am a bit nervous about liking the pieces available. \u00a0But I guess that’s all part of the fun.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
