{"id":360,"date":"2012-01-06T13:11:58","date_gmt":"2012-01-06T18:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/?p=360"},"modified":"2014-09-03T22:24:31","modified_gmt":"2014-09-04T02:24:31","slug":"how-to-make-your-drawers-smell-nice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/?p=360","title":{"rendered":"How to make your drawers smell nice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So now that Christmas is over I can show you a few things I made for others without giving away the surprise.<\/p>\n<p>Today we will start with these personalized cedar sachets I made as a small gift.\u00a0 These are pretty eco-friendly\/sustainable since everything but the filling was stuff I had on hand.<\/p>\n<p>I started with one of the left over flour sack cloths we spoke about yesterday that I used to create the produce bags and followed the same process just making the bags much smaller (and using narrower Stitch Witchery &#8211; <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.joann.com\/joann\/catalog\/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat2845&amp;PRODID=prd34507');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.joann.com\/joann\/catalog\/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat2845&amp;PRODID=prd34507\">1\/4 inch<\/a>). If you don&#8217;t have time or don&#8217;t want to\u00a0deal \u00a0you could also use store bought muslin bags.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For sizing I used a small note pad as my template and cut out a few rectangles making sure the top\u00a0of the rectangle\u00a0had the pocket edge.<\/p>\n<p>For the personalized part of this, I wanted to stamp the bags with the letter &#8220;K&#8221;.\u00a0 Seems simple enough.\u00a0 So I go to the craft store where you can find 784 stamps that you don&#8217;t want.\u00a0 And since I didn&#8217;t want to pay $35 for the whole alphabet in a font I didn&#8217;t like I headed to the wood working department.\u00a0 Here\u00a0they sell individual wood cutout letters for about 40 cents a piece.\u00a0\u00a0 I bought three as insurance.\u00a0 You know if I had bought just one I would have broken it right away.<\/p>\n<p>When I got home I looked around for a scrap of something to use as a handle.\u00a0 Low and behold I have little scraps of wood from installing our floor that needed a use.\u00a0 (By the way, I was laughed at when I said I wanted to save them.)\u00a0 So here we have our letter and our block.<\/p>\n<p><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0463.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0463.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-380\" title=\"Letter and block\" src=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0463-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0463-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0463-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Glue the two together using wood glue and then put something heavy on top to act as a clamp.\u00a0 Wait a few minutes and you will have your very own stamp. Just remember to glue it down in the wrong direction so when you stamp it&#8217;s in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0465.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0465.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-381\" title=\"Finished stamp\" src=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0465-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0465-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0465-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For the &#8220;ink&#8221; I\u00a0used\u00a0fabric paint that I poured onto a leftover paper plate from a party. (I don&#8217;t buy them anymore but since I already own them at least make them useful, right?\u00a0 They are great as paint trays for small projects especially if they are coated.\u00a0 After you are done leave them to dry and use again.) Smooth the surface with a paint brush then put your stamp in like a stamp pad.<\/p>\n<p><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0466.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0466.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-382\" title=\"Paint\" src=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0466-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0466-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0466-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I practiced a few times on some scrap since I didn&#8217;t really know if it would work.\u00a0 Then it was onto my little satchels.\u00a0 Before you stamp, put a piece of cardboard inside so the paint doesn&#8217;t seep through to the back.\u00a0 I found that it worked better if each time you dip your stamp, you smoothed out the paint.\u00a0 On these bags I also added a flower detail so the K wasn&#8217;t all alone.\u00a0 Then let dry overnight.<\/p>\n<p>For the filling I used cedar\u00a0chips but you could could use pine needles or potpourri or whatever you&#8217;ve got and like the smell of.\u00a0 To close the top, thread\u00a0some nice ribbon through the pockets made from the hems and make a bow.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_383\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0561.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0561.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-383\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-383\" title=\"Finished satchels\" src=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0561-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0561-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0561-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-383\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Finished!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A simple, pretty project that can use up the odds and ends from other projects.\u00a0 You would be amazed at the things you can make out of the parts most people throw away.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So now that Christmas is over I can show you a few things I made for others without giving away the surprise.
