{"id":634,"date":"2012-04-06T12:01:56","date_gmt":"2012-04-06T16:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/?p=634"},"modified":"2014-09-03T22:10:01","modified_gmt":"2014-09-04T02:10:01","slug":"olive-oil-sugar-scrub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/?p=634","title":{"rendered":"Olive Oil Sugar Scrub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have forced air heat so the house can get pretty dry. \u00a0I also have very sensitive skin so I have to watch the products I use on. \u00a0Seriously, most hand lotions make my skin burn. \u00a0It&#8217;s a little ridiculous. \u00a0I also love to save a few bucks by making my own stuff around here as we all know.<\/p>\n<p>So yesterday I decided to make my own olive oil &amp; sugar scrub. \u00a0The olive oil is a great moisturizer with lots of antioxidants and the sugar gently scrubs away the dead cells. \u00a0 I have done basic versions in the past so I figured I would jazz this one up a bit adding scents like vanilla and lemon.<\/p>\n<p>Our ingredients are olive oil, white sugar (in the blue &amp; white canister) , brown sugar (optional), vanilla extract or lemon zest (not shown), and an empty jar. \u00a0I have used all organic ingredients here except for the brown sugar (I was using up a small chunk I had left over) because that&#8217;s what I have. \u00a0It also means my scrub will be organic which isn&#8217;t a bad thing.<\/p>\n<p><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0997.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0997.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-635\" title=\"IMG_0997\" src=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0997-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0997-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0997-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Let me first start by saying there is no recipe. \u00a0This is not hard. \u00a0 Just make it up.<\/p>\n<p>Take a bowl, put some sugar in it. \u00a0Then pour olive oil in and stir until you get a paste. \u00a0That&#8217;s it. \u00a0Really. \u00a0You could stop here and use it. \u00a0Or you could add few things and get fancy.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not big on perfumes so I stick to food smells. \u00a0I split my mixture into two bowls to try different scents. \u00a0In one bowl I\u00a0added vanilla. \u00a0How much? \u00a0Well TB walked by as I poured it in and said &#8220;Wow, that&#8217;s a lot of vanilla!&#8221; \u00a0You aren&#8217;t going to eat it so it doesn&#8217;t have to taste good, just smell good. \u00a0Put it in until you like the way it smells, I&#8217;m guessing a teaspoon or so but I probably put more. \u00a0Whatever. \u00a0It smells awesome. \u00a0\u00a0 In the other bowl, I put lemon zest and a splash of lemon juice and mixed.<\/p>\n<p>This is the\u00a0consistency you are looking for. \u00a0You want to be able to grab some from the jar in the shower without it running down your arm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1001.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1001.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-636\" title=\"IMG_1001\" src=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1001-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1001-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ridiculousredhead.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1001-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Grab a jar (or two in my case) and put the mixture in. \u00a0My jars are being reused from my face cleanser that I love (also organic) from Suki Beauty. \u00a0I have been saving the empties since they are nice glass jars knowing I would find a use for them some day.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the two mixes &#8211; vanilla on the left and lemon on the right.
